LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy in Sacramento, CA

LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy embraces lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual experiences, identities, and relationships, and addresses the negative impact that homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism has on LGBTQIA+ people's lives. The ‘plus’ is used to signify all of the gender identities and sexual orientations that letters and words cannot/ do not yet fully describe. This psychotherapy approach serves a critical need for people who have been marginalized and continue to struggle with being "different than" the majority culture. Both the historical constructs as well as the current day to day life experiences have an effect on people who identify as LGBTQIA+.

As LGBTQIA+ individuals & families, we face disparities that may have a lasting effect on our sense of Self.

Whether you are questioning your sexual orientation and/or gender identity, or are comfortable in your Self though still struggling with leftover depression, anxiety or low self-esteem, asking for support is a courageous first step to feeling whole, healthy and happy. When we have low self-confidence, conflict in our relationships or struggle to complete work and home responsibilities, outside guidance is often needed.

Through professional counseling in a nurturing and supportive environment, together we will discover your unique strengths and build on them. We will work to help you heal from past pain, trauma, or challenges with trust and emotional intimacy. Based on your individual needs, I will teach you effective coping skills to manage distressing symptoms interfering in your life. We will also look at any underlying issues to gain clarity and insight into negative behavior patterns, providing you with lasting transformation.

Your situation may have lead you to a realization that you are tired of pretending to be someone you're not. You may have spent a lot of time and energy on meeting the needs of others instead of yourself, or behaved in certain ways because you thought it was the only way to get people to like you.

You will uncover/recover your identity and embrace who you are, inside and out.

You will learn a new way of seeing and loving yourself through exploration of negative beliefs about yourself, and see hope and new possibilities. You will gain confidence in who you are and what you are capable of achieving. Your sense of self-worth will more accurately reflect your true Self. Once you have a better understanding and trust in yourself, your relationships with others will soar.

I offer client-centered therapy at my Sacramento counseling office that revolves around your goals. If you aren't sure what those goals are for you, we will work together to discover them.
